Founding Story

The Story Behind Our Mission

Smile for Service was born from a simple belief: people who have served others should not be left behind when they need care themselves.

For Vladimir Semerey, dentistry has always been about more than teeth. His journey began as a young immigrant from Ukraine who entered dentistry through dental hygiene, worked his way through school, learned from strong clinical mentors, and eventually built a growing dental organization. Along the way, one lesson stayed constant: dentistry can change a person’s life. A healthy smile affects comfort, confidence, dignity, and the ability to live without pain.

As his work grew from clinical care into business leadership, Vladimir’s motivation changed. The mission became bigger: leading people, building strong systems, serving patients, and changing lives through better dental care.

The idea for Smile for Service became deeply personal after the war in Ukraine. Although Vladimir left Ukraine many years ago, he remained emotionally connected to the country, his childhood, and the people affected by war. Seeing soldiers lose the ability to eat, move, see, and live normally made the need for service impossible to ignore. That experience also made him think about veterans here in the United States — men and women who served in places like Afghanistan and Iraq, yet often still struggle to access the dental care they need.

Smile for Service exists to give back to veterans, first responders, police officers, firefighters, and emergency care workers — people who have carried responsibility for others, often at great personal cost. Veterans are at the heart of this mission because many do not have full dental coverage after their service, even when their needs are serious. First responders are also included because their daily service deserves recognition and support.

We are starting locally, but the vision is bigger. Smile for Service is designed to grow into a nationwide network of dental professionals who want to participate, evaluate cases, provide treatment plans, and help deliver care to those who served. The long-term goal is simple: build a system where more veterans and service members can receive the dental care they need with dignity, respect, and real support.

This mission is not charity for the sake of publicity. It is a commitment to action.

We do not advertise to veterans.

 We take care of them.
